We shouldn’t be who people think we are or who people want us to be. We don’t have to live up to society’s standards. We need to be happy with ourselves and the life we live. Life is short, we should be happy while we have it because when it’s gone, it won’t matter what others wanted us to do; what’s going to matter is if we had fun and if we were happy. We should be who we truly are. We should be ourselves and do what pleases us. No one should be the judge of who we are. We choose who we are, no one else. If people truly love us, they wouldn’t want us to be someone we aren’t. There’s a quote I love: “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I love this quote because it’s true. Knowing that we were ourselves even when the world was trying to make us different is something that we will forever be grateful for. There’s nothing worse than changing ourselves because of other people. It’s easier to stand with the crowd, be like others and to try and fit in. It’s harder to stand alone and be yourself in today’s society. However, at the end of the day, nothing else matters except if we are truly, purely, happy.
